How to Get the Best From Your Flowers

Fresh flowers bring joy, comfort and beauty into everyday moments. With a little care, your blooms will continue to open and shine. Here are our florist-approved tips to help you enjoy them for longer.

Where to place your flowers

Location matters more than you might think.

  • Place your flowers in a cool, well-lit spot, away from direct sunlight.

  • Keep them clear of heaters, fireplaces, air conditioners, and draughts.

  • Avoid placing flowers near ripening fruit, as fruit releases ethylene gas which can shorten flower life.

A calm, temperate room will help your blooms stay fresh and vibrant for longer.

Bouquets, Posies and Bunches

  • Unwrap your flowers as soon as possible.

  • Fill a vase with clean, fresh water. If flower food has been provided, add this to the water. Tips on choosing the best vessel to display your flowers can be found here.

  • Trim 2-3cm from each stem on an angle using clean, sharp secateurs or scissors.

  • Remove any foliage that will sit below the water line

  • Top up water as often as needed.

Changing the water every 2-3 days will help your flowers stay fresher for longer. Ensure you recut the stems every time you change the water.

Vases, Jars & Ceramics

  • Your flowers have been expertly arranged into a vessel, which means there’s no need to cut stem or find something to put them in.

  • Follow our placement tips when deciding where to display your flowers.

  • Top up water as often as needed.

  • Remove spent blooms and foliage as they appear, this will help the remaining flowers last longer.

Changing the water every 2-3 days will help your flowers stay fresher for longer. Ensure you recut the stems every time you change the water.

Once your flowers have finished blooming, you’re very welcome to bring your vase back into the shop. We’d love to refill it with a fresh, seasonal arrangement — a lovely way to reuse your vase and save a little money too.

Bouquet boxes (Mod Vase)

If you have received your flowers in a cardboard container that looks more like a vase, this is one of our signature “bouquet boxes”. These are a more modern and eco friendly choice to traditional boxes and save the hassle of trying to find the right vase to display their floral gift.

  • Follow our tips on where to place your flowers.

  • Top up water as often as needed - used a watering can, bottle or jug to slowly pour water into the insert inside the box.

Once your flowers have finished blooming please compost them or put them in your green bin, ensuring to remove any tie.

    Please dispose of packaging responsibly:

  • Outer: cardboard - recyclable (or if still in great condition feel free to drop it off at the shop for reuse)

  • Wrapping: tissue - recyclable - non woven wrap: reusable

  • Liner: plastic - reusable or place in your general rubbish

  • Ribbon - reusable
